Attending college is a very big
deal for most people. I've always known from an early age that I wanted to
attend college from a very young age. This is mostly due to the fact that i
want to make something respectable out of myself. Though not impossible, it is
much more difficult to become very successful if you do not earn a college
degree. I want to be able to put my kids through school at any college they
want to go to. Unlike me, I was all but forced to go to Jacksonville State
because it was one of the only colleges that offered me a full ride and because
of its close proximity to home. I would much rather be typing this essay from Tuscaloosa or Tallahassee.
You have to do the most with what you're given though and that's what i plan on
doing at JSU. I literally grew up right down the road from the campus so I
don't get to have the whole moving away from home experience. All of these
things that I am not necessarily happy about just gives me more motivation to
be successful in my life.
All for all
I absolutely hate sitting in a desk and doing “school work”. I find it hard to
find motivation to get up every morning and go to class, I always have. I am a
firm believer however, that it is doing the things that you hate that truly
have the biggest positive impacts on your life.
Another big
reason that I am attending college is for the social aspect. I love meeting new
people and making new friends, both of which I have done a ton of in the past
few weeks. I like being a part of something bigger than myself and attending
college has opened several new opportunities for me. The biggest of theses
opportunities would have to be joining a fraternity. I’m currently a pledge for
Pi Kappa Phi and will hopefully be a brother in 8 weeks. There are also all
kinds of other opportunities like student government and other clubs that I am
very interested in becoming a member of.
To sum it
all up I am attending college because I feel that it is necessary to be the
best I could be. Do I like everything about it? Not really but there is just
enough motivation there to get me through with a useful degree.
